Obituary for Emma Bowling (Rhodes)

Emma R. Bowling, 93, of Colonial Heights passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at VCU Medical Center. Born on September 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Raymond G. and Gracie A. Rhodes. Mrs. Bowling was a member of Arnold’s Valley Southern Baptist Church in Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, until 1987, when she moved to Colonial Heights and became a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Nannie B. Downey of Colonial Heights; sister, Izetta R. Williams of Glasgow; grandsons, Garvis R. Downey III of New Kent, Scott Downey of Virginia Beach, Kent Downey of Elkins, West Virginia; and great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Downey of Elkins, West Virginia. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Arnold’s Valley Southern Baptist Church, 57 Baptist Church Ln, Natural Bridge Station, Virginia 24579, with the Reverend Donald Stine officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Glasgow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arnold’s Valley Southern Baptist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
