I loved my grandmother (Jim's sister Dorothy) very much. Being the eldest of her dozen grandchildren, I had the benefit of spending the most time with her. When I wasn't over her house for Sunday dinner or random weeknight "tea time," we would vacation together, traveling all over the United States, and many times those trips would take us down to Virginia to visit her brother Jim and his family. I treasured those trips so much. Though these people were relations like first-cousin, or first-cousin-once-removed (all that technical geneology business that tickled my grandmother's fancy), it was like I had a whole new world of aunts, uncles and cousins. Uncle Jim, as we called him, was like a second grandfather to me and I loved going to see him. He opened his heart and his home (especially his kitchen) to all of us that would come down, day or night...sometimes in the middle of the night! He didn't care how late we arrived, "come over!" was the command. We knew better than to say no to Jim. How could you? Family meant to much to him, it meant everything. When my grandmother passed, it was hard on all of us, it still is. But the visits to see Uncle Jim after her passing were even more special to me... because I saw her in his eyes. I felt the same love and generosity, the same pure heart. He gave me the gift of just a little more time with her. For that I will forever be grateful. There was a twinkle in Jim's eye that I won't soon forget; just like Grandma, he enjoyed a good joke and when he laughed you couldn't help but laugh with him. I love you Uncle Jim, and will hold you forever in my heart right next to your sister.
Love - Jaime
