Patsy Kirkland Smith, 85, of Church Road, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at her home. Born November 15, 1931, to the late James Luther Kirkland and Dorothy Naomi Traylor Kirkland, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, William “Buck” Clay Smith, Sr.; a sister, Kathleen “Kitty” Kirkland Jordan; and her son-in-law, Paul Walk. Patsy was a gracious host and cook who enjoyed sports including golf, tennis, and swimming. She is survived by her son, William “Bill” Clay Smith, Jr. and wife, Susan; a daughter, Cynthia Smith Walk; four grandchildren; Emily Francis (Trey), Adam Smith (Chelsea), Whitney Walk (Chris Stanley) and Paul Walk, III; three great-grandchildren, Emma Louise Stanley, Carter Raymond Francis, and Sloane Elizabeth Smith; her brother, James L. Kirkland; and her brother-in-law, James Smith and wife, Joan. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017, at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Rev. Thomas Collins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
