Obituary for Barbara Cummings (Caffrey)

Barbara Cummings, 83, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away at Colonial Heights Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Born to the late Everette Earl and Inez Humphries Caffrey, Barbara was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Walter Cummings, Jr. Barbara was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church where she had played piano for many years. She had also worked and retired from Brown & Williams Tobacco Company. Barbara is survived by her son, Charles Perry Cummings and wife, Sharon; her daughter, Robin C. Lewis and husband, George; Her grandchildren, Jennifer M. Cummings, Charles H. Cummings, Amy C. Williams, Dustin W. Sloan, Kody L. Sloan; numerous great-grandchildren; her sisters, Harriet C. Moore and Jean Caffrey Wolfrey; her brother, Franklin “Sonny” Caffrey; two special nieces, Roxann W. Todt and Cristie W. Barrett; three devoted friends, Sissy and Richard Baily, and Estelle Wilkins, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 South Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with the Reverend Arthur Lands officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dinwiddie Rescue Squad, 13910 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, Virginia 23841. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
