Hoke Smith “Dutch” Garrett Jr., 85, of Chester, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Johnston Willis Medical Center. Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Hoke Smith Garrett Sr. and Esther Mower Garrett, and was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Kroll Garrett. Dutch was a member of Chester United Methodist Church. He was a retired United States Army veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam, and a retired Civil Servant. He is survived by two sons, Jay Garrett and wife, Judy of Midlothian and Chris Garrett and wife, Valerie of Oklahoma; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Kroll; dear friend, Dale Ellis both of Chesterfield; a brother, Bobby; and two sisters, Delores and Sandy all of Florida. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Sylvia Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the funeral home.
